Maybe not REALLY… but it sure felt like death was looming. So… Story time!

Okay, so, picture this: I decide to give our tiny powder room a little facelift. ‘Just a quick refresh,’ I thought. Famous last words, right? It started with a leak. A tiny, innocent-looking leak. I mean, how bad could it be?
Turns out, pretty bad. Demo day rolled around, and surprise! Not one, but TWO leaks. One was the toilet, whatever. But then, the vanity came out (a leftover from a disastrous One Room Challenge, by the way), and I found sink plumbing had been dripping behind the wall for who knows how long. ‘Oh well,’ I thought, ‘I was opening the wall anyway.’ Cue the ominous music.

And then, the norovirus…Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. To add to the chaos, the pipe burst. While fixing the leak behind the sink, a pipe decided to reenact Niagara Falls in our basement.WHILE my entire family was puking and sh*tting their pants. When I tell you I panicked, I legit stood there frozen. My family was still laying in bed with buckets, and I just wanted to nap. But no, the universe thought I could handle a flood. Thankfully, my dad is a saint and drove two hours to rescue us. We spent the night mopping and playing plumber. It was… an experience to say the least.
Somehow, we survived. Leaks fixed, norovirus banished (hopefully forever), and we got to the fun part. Marble tile, pretty blue wallpaper from Lowe’s, a new sink. It was looking good.
But, you know, we learned a few things. Like, did you know you can flip door casing upside down and use it as crown molding? Yeah, we did that. Looked fancy, didn’t cost a fortune. Plus, wall-mounted soap and toilet brush dispensers? Game changer. it keeps the visual clutter down. And a fresh coat of Townsend Harbour Brown on the ceiling? Perfection.
Honestly, it looks amazing now. But man, that renovation was a wild ride. So, here’s my advice, from someone who’s seen some things:
- Expect the unexpected. Like, really expect it.
- Keep your sense of humor. You’ll need it.
- Don’t be afraid to try some DIY hacks.
- And for the love of everything, hire professionals for plumbing and electrical. Trust me on this one.
Anyway, that’s my powder room story. Hope yours is less… eventful.
